6. It Took $30 Million And Choice Of Director, Cast And Crew To Convince Schwarzenegger To Make Terminator 3
The studio wasn't playing around when they entered negotiations with Arnold Schwarzenegger to see about him returning for Terminator 3. The story goes that Schwarzenegger was reluctant to star in another Terminator movie, especially one not made by James Cameron, but that all changed when Cameron convinced Schwarzenegger to do it and get as much as he could. So, as part of his package, Schwarzenegger received for Terminator 3: a $29.25 million salary (a pay-or-play fee which Schwarzenegger got whether the film was made or not), an extra $1.5 million for private jets, gym trailer, deluxe suites on location and round-the-clock limousines, and 20% of the gross once the film had broken even. Schwarzenegger also got to choose the director, the cast, his hairdresser, his makeup man, his stunt double, his own personal physician and his cook. After all the negotiating, the legal budget for Terminator 3 alone came to $2 million.
