16. Godzilla Minus Zero

Godzilla Minus One was one of the most unexpected success stories of the last few years, becoming not only the most commercially successful Japanese Godzilla film but beating out stiff, mega-budget competition to win the Best Visual Effects Oscar.

A follow-up, Godzilla Minus Zero, was swiftly announced with all major cast and crew set to return. 

The sequel takes place two years after the events of the first movie and follows the Shikishima family as they face off against an all-new threat in addition to Godzilla - many fans speculating it might be the legendary kaiju, King Ghidorah.

With filming taking place in Japan, New Zealand, and Norway, and it being shot for IMAX, Godzilla Minus Zero is clearly set to be a bigger, more expansive sequel, and if it can do that without losing the character-driven heart of its predecessor, this could at least match, if not surpass, the first.

Godzilla Minus Zero releases on November 6.
