18. Michael Rooker (Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer)

You may now know Michael Rooker as the one armed unhinged zombie hunter Merle, brother of the bow wielding Daryl (and if you don't, then that must sound insane), but before his TV fame and film baddie bit parts, he was a leading man in Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. The film was based on the true life serial killer Henry Lee Lucas and it has a horrible, gritty, almost filthy sheen layered all over it. It is a watch that makes you long for a wash by the time it reaches its horrifying conclusion and in the centre of all this putrid ugliness is the strikingly realistic Rooker. You feel like this guy is a serial killer - whether it his unhinged, cold attitude towards death, his basic monotone voice as he tells you how he killed his 'Mama' or the odd methodical way he explains to Otis, his partner in crime, the reasons why he shouldn't use the same gun twice - his role leaves you with a sense that you would never want to meet the seemingly disturbed Rooker on a dark night.
