10. Superman II

Terence Stamp’s portrayal of General Zod was exhilarating, imposing and somewhat scary – everything it needed to be.

The special effects were stunning for its time, and the success of the sequel was very much based on the same selling points as the original. This time though, Superman was fighting against evenly matched villains, meaning that he had to use his brains and not his brawn to beat them.

Superman III and IV were pretty dismal by comparison, but this was a great movie.
