20 Most Disappointing Movies of 2025

20. Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning

The eighth and apparently final Mission: Impossible movie wasn't bad, but it did nevertheless fall far short of the expectations set by Tom Cruise and filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie over the past decade.

Simply put, Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning is one of the most convoluted and outrageously bloated blockbusters of all time - a globetrotting action film with far too many characters and subplots that also seems to vastly overestimate the average viewer's interest in the franchise's "lore."

That is to say, The Final Reckoning bends over backwards to force contrived links to pretty much every prior entry in the series, most of which feel like the very sort of half-baked fan service McQuarrie himself recently criticised.

Though the cast certainly tries hard and the set-pieces are entertaining, it's also abundantly clear the series peaked with Fallout and has spent the last two movies trying, in considerable vain, to top it.

And as an apparent conclusion to Ethan Hunt's (Cruise) story, it ultimately doesn't feel like much of an ending at all. A cinematic anti-climax if there ever was one.
