15. K Meets Deckard - Blade Runner 2049
Few cinematic moments this year are anywhere near as chillingly beautiful as K (Ryan Gosling) heading to Deckard's (Harrison Ford) hideout in Las Vegas and meeting him for the first time.
From the eye-wateringly gorgeous cinematography to the bleak imagery itself, the astonishing production design and Ford's grizzled performance, the entire sequence is pretty much perfectly executed.
Though there aren't any giant CGI-assisted explosions or set-pieces, we do get one of the year's weirdest punch-ups between K and Deckard, inside a nightclub featuring an intermittent Elvis hologram, not to mention a huge exposition dump from Deckard that clears up more than a few things.
Audiences sure as hell had to wait for these two to meet, but it was most certainly worth it.
