The best Star Wars movie of them all, The Empire Strikes Back is in many ways the ultimate rewatchable movie. There's blistering action (the opening battle on Hoth, the escape from Cloud City), romance (the creepy-in-retrospect love triangle between Han, Luke and Leia) and high drama ("I am your father"). What really endures about The Empire Strikes Back, however, is the universe built by George Lucas and co. Taking in every detail of Lucas' galaxy far, far away is impossible on first watch, and the action sequences are so impeccably staged by Empire director Irvin Kershner that they call out for repeated watching. It should also be noted that Empire features the best work in all of the Star Wars films from the ensemble cast. Kershner, more of an actors' director than Lucas or Return Of The Jedi director Richard Marquand, draws great performances from the main trio of Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, with all three arguably reaching career high-points.
