20 Most Rewatchable Sci-Fi Movies Of The 21st Century
13. Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
We’re
not technically stretching the definition of sci fi here, since this evocative flick
from the mind of Being John Malkovich creator Charlie Kaufman does feature some
unlikely future technology that allows the protagonist to have another human erased
from his memory via an invasive experimental procedure.
Regardless, we couldn’t leave this off the list in any case, as the thoughtful tragicomedy offers not only a moving depiction of technology’s questionable intrusion into our love life and mental freedom, but also a stellar love story as affecting as it is surprisingly funny.
Worth re-watching for star Jim Carrey’s staggering central turn alone, this beautifully realized flick is one of the new millennium’s best pieces of thoughtful, sad sci fi.
