There was a collective groan from anyone over the age of 25 when a sequel-reboot of Jumanji was first announced, because on paper, what could this be other than a cynical attempt to cash-in on the legacy of Robin Williams' much-loved 1995 adventure classic?
As it turns out, the new Jumanji smartly steered away from the formula of the original, reinventing the series as a smartly-written video game parody, full of madcap action sequences and driven by a quartet of enjoyable performances, most of all Jack Black.

It wouldn't have been remotely shocking if Jumanji was panned by critics, so when word got out that the movie was actually good, it was to the pleasant surprise of just about everyone.
