10. Blockers (83%)

Universal

Much like Game Night, Blockers was marketed to appeal to the lowest common denominator audience, with the trailers focusing on gross-out humour and generally low-effort gags.

A sure surprise it was, then, when Blockers received raves out of its SXSW premiere and managed to near enough carry that momentum across to its theatrical release.

Rocking a solid 6.7 average in a notoriously tough-to-crack genre, Blockers delivered a clever, feminist spin on the typical teen sex comedy, aided by a terrifically entertaining ensemble cast.

This is absolutely a movie that could've easily scored mediocre reviews with critics and still performed well at the box office, so the critical approval is really just the icing on the cake.
