13. Sledgehammer - Misery (1991)

Writer Paul Sheldon has the misfortune to crash his car and break his legs. He has an even bigger misfortune to be rescued by his psycho number one fan - a homocidal, angel of death nurse called Annie Wilkes. He tries to escape from her clutches and in a pant wettingly scary scene, she puts a block of wood between his ankles and smashes them to smithereens - "Trust me, it's for the best." Cue all the film's viewers wincing in horror and checking their own ankles are okay.
