1. Taylor Swift Drugs A Room Full Of Cats - Cats
And finally, just barely arriving in time before the end of the year, we have Cats, a movie so certifiably insane it could basically count as one giant WTF moment.
But there's one single scene in the film which usurps all others as the most absurd, and not-so-coincidentally, it's also the very best that Cats has to offer.
The musical number where we're introduced to the villainous Macavity (Idris Elba) begins with his sexy sidekick Bombalurina (Taylor Swift) drugging an entire room full of cats with catnip, apparently to increase Macavity's chances of impressing Old Deuteronomy (Judi Dench) and ascending to the tranquil Heaviside Layer. Right.
In fairness, Swift gives by far the best vocal performance in the entire movie, and Macavity's song is catchy as hell, even if the sight of Swift writhing around with a naked-except-for-his-fur Elba is deeply unsettling.
Say what you want about this movie, but it sure ain't boring, and cinema in 2019 otherwise never got quite this swing-for-the-fences, huff-all-the-glue, bats**t insane.
