10. The Film Critic Rant - Malcolm & Marie

Malcolm and Marie revolves around a filmmaker (John David Washington) and his girlfriend (Zendaya) who, after returning home from the premiere of his new movie, get into a fiery argument over both the movie and their relationship.

A lengthy passage of the black-and-white drama is devoted to an extensive monologue in which Malcolm dissects the first review of his film, flying into an indignant rage about the white female critic's political interpretation of the film, despite the fact she generally reviewed it positively.

Ironically, many critics took the scene to be writer-director Sam Levinson clapping back at critics who tore apart his previous film, the controversial black comedy Assassination Nation - which, also, was generally well-reviewed.

Levinson responded by accusing critics of not paying attention to the full context of the scene - namely that Marie mocks Malcolm for his childish rant - but even so, the angry tirade absolutely feels like it comes from an incredibly real place.

Whether you liked it or not, we can all agree that Washington knocked the volcanic monologue out of the park.
