Cult 1997 sci-fi horror Cube is a tenaciously entertaining and intense low-budget effort that inevitably led to two hugely inferior sequels.
In 2015, it was confirmed that Lionsgate were assembling a remake, Cubed, with music video and short film director Saman Kesh set to helm.
Is It A Good Idea?
The original is a tight piece of work that benefits from its low budget, so hopefully Lionsgate aren't just throwing money at the remake. It could easily end up glossy and over-produced, but Kesh's short film Controller shows plenty of stylistic promise, so it just comes down to the quality of the script.
There's nothing inherently bad about remaking a movie like this, but living up to the original's mixture of suspense, neat visuals and entertaining performances won't be easy.
