20 Movie Villains Who Were Unbelievably Petty
2. Lex Luthor - Superman
When Zack Snyder brought Batman and Superman together on the big screen for the first time in Dawn of Justice, the puzzling decision to cast Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor was made, and it just didn't work. However, it wasn't just the casting that was an issue; his entire motivation and story underwhelmed.
Nine years later, nothing could have been further from the truth for Nicholas Hoult's version of the character in James Gunn's Superman. This Luthor was superior in every way, down to his relentless hatred of Superman (David Corenswet).
There was no diabolical or nonsensical plot, convoluted to the point of ridiculousness. No, instead, Luthor hated Superman simply because he was jealous of him. Jealous of the attention he was getting, jealous of the recognition he was getting, and painfully envious of what he saw as an effortless life for an alien on Earth compared to his own ignored genius.
Lex was so petty, he even had literal monkeys working around the clock to slander and badmouth Supes online, designed to turn the public's adoration of the superhero to his own contempt. However, #supersh*t didn't mean much in the face of him being mauled by Krypto, did it?
