The second film from Ex Machina director Alex Garland sees him adapting Jeff VanderMeer's acclaimed sci-fi horror novel, about a biologist (Portman) whose husband (Oscar Isaac) disappears, and heads out into an environmental danger zone to try and find him. Naturally, things get very, very strange.
This looks like the sort of heady, provocative material Garland could knock out of the park, and with an all-star cast also including Portman's fellow MCU alums Tessa Thompson and Benedict Wong, as well as Jennifer Jason Leigh, Garland should be able to mine every ounce of humanity and intrigue from the source novel.
Furthermore, in an unprecedented move, the film is set to be released on Netflix just 16 days after its theatrical bow. Times are a-changing
