20. Jonathan Demme: Bruce Springsteen - "Murder Incorported"
Provider of masterpieces such as The Silence of the Lambs (1991) and Philadelphia (1993), Jonathan Demme also took the time to form videos for some major artists across the 1980s and 1990s. Collaborations with UB40, New Order and Suzzane Vega are all of worthy note, but the director is most renowned for his thriving relationship with American rock legend Bruce Springsteen. He and his E Street Band were of course responsible for the Academy Award-winning theme for his 1993 AIDS drama ("Streets of Philadelphia"), but the pairing here for Springsteen's deeply controversial and confrontational track takes the crown. Deemed too violent and honest to appear as a title record, "Murder Incorporated" found a wave of new listeners in the wake of Philadelphia and it is now considered one of his greatest tracks.
