20 Perfect Scenes In God-Awful Horror Movies

20. "I'm Mellllllting" - Cube Zero

The reason why Cube was so enrapturing was because it gave very little away. Why are these strangers trapped in a gigantic labyrinth? Who built it? What is its true purpose? These questions are barely explored, urging viewers to fill in the blanks themselves.

And then Cube Zero ruined it all by explaining everything. And with its mundane characters and rote script, this prequel was a total misfire.

It's a massive shame, since the grotesquely riveting prologue implies the next 90 minutes will be gripping. Cube Zero begins with a prisoner called Ryjkin awakening inside a cube-shaped prison filled with booby traps. As he enters the adjacent room, he's sprayed by an unknown liquid.

Ryjkin screams in terror, assuming the liquid is harmful. But after a moment, he realises he's sustained no injuries.

Or so it appears. While studying his hands, he notices his skin is peeling, indicating the spray is a slow-acting acid. As he viciously scratches at his hands, the skin falls off, exposing his bones and muscles.

In a panic, he grabs his face, ripping the skin off in the process. As blood oozes from the bottom of his trousers, it's clear his body is melting from the inside.

As he lets out one last scream, the poor prisoner dissolves into a pile of bloody slop on the floor.

Gross.
