Predicted Critical Consensus: "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald should please the J.K. Rowling faithful, though it may not prove nourishing enough for the causal crowd."

Critics were rather generous with the first Fantastic Beasts, awarding it 74% despite it being a fairly uninspired attempt to milk the Harry Potter IP for more money (and clearly, it worked).

As such, though this sequel will boast more Johnny Depp than anyone really wants, critics will probably still go relatively easy on it, praising the visual effects and other, non-Depp performances.

Expect Jude Law's much-hyped turn as a young Dumbledore to carry the film through some duller stretches, even if it'll be a sure comedown from its already mediocre predecessor.
