Captain Marvel received more lightweight, three-star reviews than many were hoping for, but still settled at a respectable 79%, and one suspects the upcoming sequel will be a marginal improvement.

There are two big sells here - seeing Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) team up with Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), and the body-swap premise, whereby Carol and Kamala will switch bodies each time they use their powers.

Early reports state that the film is an homage to classic body-swap comedies like Freaky Friday, and the potential for that to offer something unlike anything else in the MCU speaks for itself.

Basically, The Marvels sounds like it'll be a fun, low-consequence offering ahead of more "important" entries into Phase Five.
