Every fan of slasher films know that the people that are REALLY controlling who is going to get killed and when are the composers of the soundtrack. Screeching strings are a dead giveaway, for starters, and have been since, like, the 1950s. Ominous bass rumblings tend to be a false alarm, a clever way of raising tension. Better to wait until the score goes quiet - that's when you can assume that something big and LOUD is coming. Oh, and never, ever trust any "pretty" moments in the soundtrack. If a harp or a minor piano part comes in towards the end of the film, you know it won't last. It's a fake moment of blissful respite, designed to lull the audience - and you, the victim - into a false sense of security before the final shock hits.
