20 Sci-Fi Movies EVERY Film Fan Should Have Seen

6. Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back

Much like the Marvel Cinematic Universe entry, there's a case to be made for every Star Wars film being on this list (yes, even the prequel trilogy) because the franchise has become such an ingrained part of Hollywood that the idea of coming across someone who isn't a fan is probably a lot rarer than coming across someone who is. That's Star Wars for you.

What sets The Empire Strikes Back apart from the rest, however, is how it continues the story set forth in A New Hope in a surprising but authentic way, as Luke Skywalker's saga and confrontation with Darth Vader ultimately result in the franchise reaching new heights in both emotional and visual ways.

Ironically another critics-divider upon its release it has since gone on to earn itself countless accolades from fans, critics, historians and just about everyone else who can now truly appreciate what it accomplished, as it successfully upped the ante to outshine its near-perfect predecessor - rightfully going down in history as one of the greatest sequels of all time in the process.

It should go without saying that Star Wars is a must-see, but if for some reason you haven't, please do sit back and enjoy the whole saga. You're in for one heck of a ride.
