2. Terminator 2: Judgment Day

What is there to say about Terminator 2: Judgment Day that hasn't already been said? A film that took everything that made the first Terminator film a resounding success and threw it out the window, T2 took the franchise into the action blockbuster territory in what was undoubtedly a huge gamble, but it didn't just pull it off, it succeeded in a way that nobody could have foresaw.

A triumph in basically every way imaginable, the film prioritised story over chase this time, delving into the origins of Skynet, but it never did so to the detriment of the film, using all of that vital information to pose the audience with important questions and further each character's respective arcs - even taking the time to develop the cybernetic protagonist.

It's so good that every subsequent Terminator sequel has tried to recreate its success. None have succeeded.

Bigger and better, T2 is that rare breed of film that exibits both style and substance, making it one of the best science fiction, action (and, in general) films of all time - and perhaps even the greatest sequel ever made.
