20 Sequels That Brilliantly Fixed Past Mistakes
16. Jurassic World: Rebirth - Restoring That Sense Of Wonder
Jurassic World: Rebirth was nothing special, and yet, there's a strong argument to be made that it's the best Jurassic Park film bar the original. Sure, perhaps that's more a mark of how bad all of the other sequels are - yes, including The Lost World; that movie stinks - but it should be noted that this picture does have something none of the other follow-ups do, and that's the sense of wonder that was present in the 1993 original.
The franchise's originating instalment is full of quiet moments of childlike wonder as the characters stop and admire the dinosaurs, taking in the miraculous spectacle with a real sense of awe. Who can ever forget the moment where Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler first see a dinosaur walking by? Another great example is when Grant and the original film's kid characters sit in a tree and watch a group of Brachiosaurus in the distance, which was a lovely moment of quiet contemplation.
The other sequels seem to have an attitude of "Dinosaurs! Anyway..." but Rebirth brings back the quiet calm, the moments where characters stop to appreciate the extraordinary beauty of these animals once thought lost forever. Notably, there's a particularly lovely scene where the main characters come across a group of titanosaurus dinosaurs in the long grass, two of which are mates. There's no violence, just a sense of calm wonder heightened by Alexandre Desplat's gorgeous musical score.
