14. Nolan & Goyer Changed Batman's Origin Story (Slightly)

Batman Begins depiction of the origin of Batman the murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne in a dark Gotham back alley is pretty faithfully rendered, with one major change from the source material: whereas in the comics the Waynes were attending a movie, Batman Begins has them attending the opera Mefistofle, to be exact. The change was made in part because Nolan felt that a character in a movie watching a movie is very different than a character in a comic book watching a movie it creates a deconstructionist thing that we were trying to avoid. Nolan also wanted to avoid Zorro as a role model we wanted nothing that would undermine the idea that Bruce came up with this crazy plan of putting on a mask all by himself. (Zorro and his dual identity were, of course, one of the initial sources that Bob Kane and Bill Finger ripped off er, that Bob Kane and Bill Finger were inspired by when they created Batman).
