14. Rey's Instant Bread Was A Totally Practical Effect

One of the movie's low-key most memorable moments involves Rey eating some portion bread - a self-rising bread which instantly rises when the polystarch flour mixture is combined with water.

Most likely assumed the effect was generated digitally in post-production, but per J.J. Abrams' commitment to practical effects wizardry, the bread was 100% real.

The Force Awakens' special effects supervisor Chris Corbould also confirmed that the bread took three months to develop as a practical effect.

Despite all the time and effort that went into it, the final effect was actually relatively simple: the "bread" prop was inflated with an air pump while the liquid in the bowl was simultaneously suctioned out. A genius magic trick all the same, though.
