20. The Opening Wasn't Set In Space

In 2016, Lucasfilm changed the game in regard to Star Wars movies with the release of Rogue One. The eighth movie in the franchise was the first to carry the subtitle of A Star Wars Story, marketed as something of an anthology movie and outside of the main Skywalker Saga line of movies.

Two years later came the next Star Wars Story with Solo. Though still movies under the Star Wars banner, there are key differences, one of the most noticeable being the lack of a crawl at the beginning of the movie. When you sit down to watch a Star Wars movie, generally you know you will get exposition floating through space, but not with Rogue One and Solo.

This also leads into something else, in that after the crawl has finished rolling, the camera pans through space to the first scene of the movie. This has always been among the stars. Even without the crawl, Rogue One's opening scene was set in space, but not Solo.

Of the 11 Star Wars movies to date, the scene of Han in his speeder coming back to Lady Proxima makes Solo the sole movie not to begin in outer space. It's a small detail and one that doesn't particularly impact too much, but it at least gives Solo something of a uniqueness even if just for how the movie begins.
