20 Upcoming Movie Sequels That Could Be HUGE Improvements
20. Mortal Kombat 2
2021's Mortal Kombat reboot was fine - it certainly delivered a bevy of bloody action as fans of the video game franchise would expect, but it certainly left a lot to be desired on the story and character front.
For one, where the hell was Johnny Cage?
But the impending sequel - titled Mortal Kombat II - seeks to rectify that glaring omission, with the great Karl Urban roped in to play the fan favourite martial artist-slash-movie star.
The trailers certainly suggest that Urban is having a ton of fun playing Cage, and in addition to this, the sequel will also introduce other iconic "kombatants" such as Kitana (Adeline Rudolph), Jade (Tati Gabrielle), Quan Chi (Damon Herriman), Shao Kahn (Martyn Ford), Sindel (Ana Thu Nguyen), and Baraka (CJ Bloomfield).
But perhaps the biggest relief to fans is that the protagonist of the first film, Cole Young (Lewis Tan), appears to have been relegated to glorified cameo duty this time around.
Given that he was an original creation for the first movie and functioned as a rather pointless audience surrogate character, the fact that his presence is being seriously curtailed should help make Mortal Kombat 2 a vastly superior sequel.
