20 Upcoming Movie Sequels That Need To End Their Franchises

By Jack Pooley /

2. Underworld: Next Generation

The Franchise: The Kate Beckinsale-starring vampire-werewolf action series, which has pulled in a tidy $458.2 million worldwide despite mixed-to-negative reviews. That's what guns + leather will do for you. Sequel Status: Though it sounds like a reboot, the upcoming Underworld: Next Generation is in fact a sequel, with Theo James reprising his part from the previous movie (if you somehow remember that), becoming the series' new protagonist. Why It Needs To Be The Last One: Because only the first two movies were even remotely entertaining, and by now it feels like they've just run out of steam creatively. Plus, with no Kate Beckinsale, who the hell wants to watch this? How Likely Is It?: Producer Len Wiseman (who is also Beckinsale's husband and directed the first two movies) claims that a sixth movie is already in the works, again starring Beckinsale as Selene, so while it's not set in stone, another movie after Next Generation is very likely. 2/10.
