10. Whalefall

Single-location genre films can be a whole lot of fun, but never before have we seen a movie set entirely inside a sperm whale of all things.

Whalefall is based on Daniel Kraus's acclaimed 2023 novel and follows Jay Gardiner (Austin Abrams), a scuba diver who is swallowed by a sperm whale while searching for the remains of his late father, Mitt (Josh Brolin).

And so begins the ticking clock - Jay has just an hour to escape his peculiar predicament before his oxygen runs out.

For anyone adamant that originality in Hollywood is dead, here's one hell of a unique, fascinating concept with a whole ton of potential. 

While it certainly represents a challenge for filmmaker Brian Duffield (No One Will Save You) to keep the confined setting interesting for a feature-length runtime, he's lucky to be working with such well-regarded source material alongside a strong cast, also including Elisabeth Shue, John Ortiz, and Jane Levy.
