20 Upcoming Netflix Originals You NEED To Know About
The Adam Project sounds absolutely WILD.
Netflix started 2022 by confirming that the streaming service now has a whopping 222 million subscribers, and while that figure is being aggressively chased by the likes of Disney+, it still puts them in a position to spend enormous sums of money of new content.
In 2021 the streamer spent $17 billion on new movies and TV shows, and is set to expand that figure to $19 billion throughout 2022, the benefits of which speak for themselves to customers.
As much as Netflix Original films are of a wildly inconsistent quality, the streaming giant has nevertheless become a welcome home for more left-field filmmakers to release movies that perhaps wouldn't fare quite so well at the box office.
And Netflix is also continuing to make strides to bolster their mega-budget blockbuster game with a few massive gambles in the works.
Of the hundreds of film projects currently in production with the streamer, these are the ones most worthy of your attention.
From Netflix Original sequels to inevitable Oscar players and even potential new franchise-starters, you should keep an eye out for these projects due to release within the next year or two...
20. Extraction 2
2020's Russo brothers-produced action-thriller Extraction was a smash hit for Netflix, being viewed by 99 million households within its first four weeks and damn-near ensuring a sequel was on the cards.
Despite the dubious fate of Chris Hemsworth's protagonist Tyler Rake at film's end, he is indeed back for more, once again with a script penned by Joe Russo and stuntman-filmmaker Sam Hargrave directing.
Though Extraction 2 is still shooting as we speak and no other cast members are yet confirmed, the Russo brothers have suggested in interviews that the film will expand the series' mythology in the hope of leaving the door open for further sequels and spin-offs.
As long as it can nail the visually creative action of its predecessor - or maybe even one-up it - this should be another solid mid-budget effort for Netflix.
