The Coen Brothers' remake of the John Wayne original is a far superior work, perfectly capturing the idiosyncratic tone of the Charles Portis novel on which it was based. Jeff Bridges delivers one of his finest performances as mumbling drunk U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn, whilst newcomer Hailee Steinfeld is mesmerising in the lead role.
