15. King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword

Warner Bros.

In hindsight, the fact that Guy Ritchie's curiously modernist/traditional blend King Arthur movie was supposed to kick off a whole franchise around the character looks a lot like the kind of arrogance we should all be encouraged to laugh at. They even decided not to include the best character from the entire legend - Merlin - with the intention to bring him in later, presumably. What folly!

Unfortunately, the studios missed the fact that nobody cares about King Arthur any more, even with Game Of Thrones in the ascendancy (they're nothing alike, and if that was used as jusitifcation for its $175m budget it just proves Hollywood producer thinking).

Ritchie's The Man From UNCLE was much better, because there was some kitsch in there. Here, his attempt to be all bad-boy gritty comes off as silly and the agenda to remake Arthur as a sort of Oliver Twist on steroids superhero isn't at all pleasant.
