8. Winchester

Though this horror flick has a cracking cast and killer hook to boot - heiress to the Winchester gun fortune, Sarah Winchester (Helen Mirren), builds a gigantic, labyrinthine mansion to accommodate the ghosts of people killed by Winchester weaponry - it ultimately goes nowhere interesting.

Rife with cliches, fatally lacking in atmosphere or suspense and wasting not only Mirren but also Jason Clarke and Sarah Snook, this is a deathly dull genre effort that seems too afraid to have fun or just surrender to its kitschy B-movie potential.

Worst Moment: Helen Mirren's surprisingly appalling attempt at a southern American accent. Her British tang constantly slips through and it's pretty embarrassing for the usually reliable vet actress.
