5. The Week Of

Netflix

Adam Sandler is about the most frustrating actor currently working. He still shows flashes of brilliance - as in The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) and his recent stand-up special - but he's too-often mired in making diabolical Netflix "comedies" with the same group of pals who seem intent on coasting with him.

Even with a low benchmark already established, The Week Of is a particularly hard slog to get through and sees Sandler in his most annoying comedy-by-numbers mode.

Despite having two good comedy talents in Sandler and Chris Rock, this uninspiring rom-com about two families coming together for a wedding is over-long, painfully boring and almost completely devoid of even the cheapest of laughs. Its true crime is just how flat and dull it is and there's a very real suggestion that Sandler's Netflix deal is allowing him to get away with dialing it in way too much.
