Caleb (Domhnall Gleeson) approaches Nathan's (Oscar Isaac) robotic servant Kyoko (Sonoya Mizuno) to find out Nathan's whereabouts, just as Nathan enters the room and tells him that he's wasting his time talking to her...but wouldn't be wasting his time dancing with her. At that moment, Nathan flicks a switch that transforms the room into a neon-lit disco, as Kyoko starts dancing and Nathan encourages Caleb to join in with her. A perplexed Caleb then asks Nathan about the picture of Ava (Alicia Vikander) he tore up, and Nathan hilariously replies, "I'm gonna tear up the f***ing dance floor, dude", before dancing in sync with Kyoko while Caleb looks on incredulously. It's a welcome moment of levity in an intense psychological drama, and one of the most unexpected comic flourishes of the last twelve months.
