5. Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die

Gore Verbinski's first feature in almost a full decade received strong reviews from critics and those viewers who actually went out to see it, and it's certainly impressive how much production value Verbinski wrung out of his laudably disciplined $20 million budget - especially considering the high-concept sci-fi setup.

But from the moment the first trailer dropped, it was clear that Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die wouldn't become a box office breakout - its sheer weirdness, and the trickiness of selling its premise to the masses, left it on a huge uphill struggle to turn a profit.

Furthermore, it was distributed by Briarcliff Entertainment - a label with few sizable hits to speak of, and without a major star at the forefront - sorry, Sam Rockwell - there just wasn't a path for the film to perform well theatrically.

When it was all said and done, it grossed just shy of $10 million worldwide, failing to claw back even half its price tag, though it has at least performed well on streaming so far and seems primed to become a cult classic in short order.
