17. Paranormal Activity 8

Back in December, a new entry into the Paranormal Activity franchise was announced, and considering how little we know about it, it's nothing but potential right now.

There's certainly some promising personnel involved, though - horror maestro James Wan will help develop the film, which is set to be directed by Ian Tuason, whose recent debut film Undertone received rave reviews on the genre festival circuit.

We know that Paranormal Activity 8 is being produced for a major theatrical release, and that's about it. 

Whether it'll continue the original storyline or effectively act as a franchise reboot remains to be seen, but considering that Tuason's debut was acclaimed for executing low-fi scares on a small $500,000 budget, it seems likely he'll bring some nifty new stylistic tricks to the IP.

All in all, while Paranormal Activity 8 will probably retain some of the aesthetic and narrative tropes of the earlier films, it'll surely attempt to reinvent the brand in a way that feels more relevant for the audiences of today.
