20 Recent Movie Rumours That Were Total BULL

5. It's A Secret Sequel To The Guest - Onslaught

The Rumour:

With how secretively Adam Wingard filmed his latest action thriller Onslaught, it wasn't terribly surprising that some chose to believe that the filmmaker was finally making a secret sequel to his much-loved 2014 film The Guest.

The fact that Onslaught also starred that film's lead actor, Dan Stevens, didn't help matters, and even as its release neared with the marketing drive in full swing, some fans refused to let go of it being a direct follow-up to The Guest.

The Truth:

Ultimately Onslaught is a spiritual successor to it, with Wingard confirming that it does indeed take place within the same universe, which tracks given that its plot also revolves around super-soldier experiments gone awry.

But that's where the connective tissue largely begins and ends - Stevens is playing an entirely different character here, even if fans have pondered whether both of Stevens' characters could somehow be related.

Considering that Onslaught was a massive box office flop despite its low $15 million budget, though, don't expect a third film in this nascent universe to materialise anytime soon.
