25 Greatest Ever Movie Anti-Heroes

By Jack Pooley /

25. Marv (Sin City)

Mickey Rourke's scarred, brutish drifter is easily the most bada** character in the Sin City series, framed for the murder of a prostitute and being forced to spend most of the first movie meting out bloody vengeance. Despite being executed at the end of the first film, he re-appears in the chronologically prior sequel, serving as muscle for both Dwight and Nancy. Rourke may be the most likable character in either movie, but he strays away from a lot of typical heroic attributes: for one his appearance is rather grotesque and unseemly for a good guy, he's more than a little psychotic, clearly relishes violence and isn't all that smart. We love him anyway, but he's a million miles away from a clean-cut hero, as is just about every single character in Sin City.
