While never made explicit in the show, season fours doomed schoolboy Randy Wagstaffs (Maestro Harrell) father is also a significant character in its later episodes. Cheese (Method Man), the wayward nephew of drug lord Proposition Joe, shares the same surname as Randy and was confirmed as his father by David Simon after The Wires conclusion. The original plan was to explore this avenue in season five, but Simon elected not to do so. Perhaps this is because of just how unlikeable Cheeses character was set to become in the season, as he singlehandedly manipulated and sold out various key figures in the story.
