Based on a 2011 award-winning short, Pixels was originally intended to be an animation until Adam Sandler brought Chris Columbus in to direct. The story - more a vehicle for one irresistibly good idea, really - sees Sandler playing a retro gamer who teams up with others to take down an invading alien threat using giant gaming sprites to attack the Earth.

Somebody has clearly been watching Futurama.

Selling Point

Peter Dinklage and Josh Gad are riding pretty high at the minute. Watching them battle Space Invaders is one of those guilty pleasures you don't get very often.

Reservations

Adam Sandler is not (despite the hatred of Blended being way off base). And the fact that Kevin James is in it (bafflingly, as the President), suggests that he won't exactly be on top form.
