25 Most Hotly Anticipated Movies Of Summer 2016 - Ranked
23. Florence Foster Jenkins
Release Date: August 12th
Billed As: The next King's Speech, only if instead of having a speech impediment, the King was a tone deaf New York heiress whose persistence propelled her to fame and popularity as an opera singer.
Hype: It's quite shocking that this obvious Oscar-bait is being released in a so atypically Oscar-friendly window, but at least it offers some variation on the blockbuster theme.
Stephen Frears knows how to sell stories of personal triumph with strong emotional clout (see the exquisite Philomena), and Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant both know how to make charming comedies. Add in the relative wildcard of Big Bang Theory's Simon Hellberg and you have an extremely intriguing mix.
It's already out in the UK, and has received exceptional early reviews (scoring more than 90% on Rotten Tomatoes in the process), so signs are good for the wider release in August. Seriously, it's great.
