Former actor John Gavin - probably best known as Sam Loomis in Psycho and Julius Caesar in Spartacus among many other roles - went on to become the President of the Screen Actors Guild (1971–73) and United States Ambassador to Mexico(1981–86) before his death in February at the age of 86.
