13. Slimer's 'Stunt Double' Was Actually A Peanut

Time and budgets were really strained at times during the shoot, which lead to some pretty unconventional shortcuts being used to save time.

One such example comes from special effects supervisor Richard Edlund, who was under so much pressure to design, storyboard, build and shoot every effect in the movie that he had to instruct his team to take pretty drastic measures when it came to scenes involving Slimer.

In none closeup sequences, the glowing green ghoul was actually replaced with a peanut, spray painted green by the crew. This cut costs by immeasurable amounts, and unless you know what you are looking for, then there’s just no way of telling – even all this time later.
