The centipede in this third movie isn't just larger than in previous films: it's structurally different too. Dwight explains that because the inmates still need to be released from prison free of mutilation at the end of their sentences, the design of the new centipede needs to have few lasting physical effects. As such, he proposes a "gastro-intestinal bite-ring" which holds their mouth open rather than ripping out all of the victims' teeth, paralysis-inducing drugs instead of cutting the knee ligaments, and leather straps rather than skin to attach a**es to mouths. Dwight's method, which comes complete with a diagram, would apparently only leave a slight scar around the mouth and butt. Everyone approves, and plans for the centipede get into motion.
