Without any exaggeration whatsoever, it's been long looking like 2015 just might be the greatest year for Hollywood blockbusters ever. While the annual tentpole slate usually fills itself out nicely, 2015 is a year so uncommonly jam-packed with anticipated movies that one can't help but notice the upswing. We've got exciting original ideas, promising reboots of classic franchises, long-anticipated sequels, and beloved series being resurrected after years in the wilderness. In fact, so crammed with huge movies is 2015 that it was a struggle to whittle the list down to a mere 30, and in fact, the list could easily go up to 40 or 50. If even half of these movies deliver on their promises, then 2015 truly could be the most successful year for blockbusters ever, but even ignoring that, the hype-o-meter is going to be off the charts all the way to the year's end, and cinema owners will no doubt be rubbing their hands with glee. We're also going to predict each movie's Rotten Tomatoes score, so we can check back in the future and see how on-the-money or thoroughly out-of-step we were (most likely the latter). Of course, feel free to add your own predictions in the comments below, and if we missed any must-see movies next year, let us know!
30. The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (Jan 16)
Guy Ritchie takes a break from his hit Sherlock Holmes franchise to direct a film adaptation of the classic 1960s TV spy series The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Henry Cavill (replacing the originally-cast Tom Cruise) stars as slick American agent Napoleon Solo, who is teamed with Russian Illya Kuryakin (Armie Hammer) during the Cold War to help bring down a shadowy criminal enterprise. Though the movie was much more appealing when Steven Soderbergh was attached to direct, when Richie has the right screenplay, he can direct fun, thrilling movies, and there's no denying the stylistic flourish he will bring to a movie like this. With the right level of self-awareness and a script that doesn't take itself too seriously, this could be an entertaining buddy vehicle for Cavill and Hammer, the latter of whom could especially use the boost. Given how many talented writers, directors and actors have been circling this project for years in various forms, there's certainly something there that Richie can hopefully nail down. Predicted Rotten Tomatoes Score: 63%
