1. The Film Ultimately Took 10 Years To Make

Though Batman was shot in just three months, the period from the rights being acquired to the film actually hitting cinemas spanned an entire decade.

Producers Benjamin Melniker and Michael E. Uslan bought the rights to Batman from DC in October 1979, though proved unable to sell Hollywood on the prospect of a lighter, comedic Batman movie, even in light of the success of Richard Donner's Superman.

The project suffered through an incredibly protracted development as writers, directors and actors came and went, until the stars aligned and Burton finally came aboard for good.

The end result speaks for itself - a landmark superhero film that, while imperfect, helped set the mould that so many subsequent superhero movies have followed.
