19. The Platform

This Spanish sci-fi horror gets few points for subtlety, but as a stylish, effective allegory of class conflict, it is a whole lot of kitschy fun.

The Platform is set entirely within a mysterious vertical prison, where a platform containing food travels from the top to the bottom, forcing those at the bottom to feed on the scraps left for them by those above.

Again, it's indelicate as a piece of serious political commentary, but nevertheless fertile ground for a thrilling, compulsively watchable thriller which milks its dishy premise for every drop its worth. No wonder it's a cult fave already.
