After May takes Max and his family in, most viewers probably expected her help to end there because, after all, how useful can an elderly woman be against a gang of bandits? Pretty damn useful, in fact, as she manages to get the drop on Toecutter and co. by sneaking up on them with a shotgun. After they don't take her seriously, she fires a warning shot and ushers the men into her barn, uttering the totally ballsy line, "Anyone so much as breathes, I'll cheese him." Sure, she only holds the gang off temporarily and doesn't manage to shoot any of them once they're back on their bikes, but still, it's a pretty solid effort for a woman of grandma age.
